What Makes Applying Chamois Cream Important

What Makes Applying Chamois Cream Important

by Nathaniel Thome

Bicycle riders, especially those who train for a long time or cover extended distances, are prone to developing saddle sores. As a form of prevention, it's a must to use chamois cream. What it basically does is provide lubrication down there where there's constant friction.

No matter if the saddle of your bike has the perfect fit, you can still end up with those sores when you sit on it all the time. Wearing good quality shorts also doesn't exempt you from those painful hot spots. Saddle sores first appear as tiny scratches on your skin. However, take note that you also sweat down there while you ride, making it a warm and moist place. Such is a catalyst for bacterial growth.

The real problem starts when bacteria get to those abrasions. The result: an infection. Your hot spots will swell and even form abscess. What you have to do is keep the problem from showing up in the first place, so a good preventive measure is essential. Such is obtained by providing areas prone to friction with effective lubrication.

Because the product is important for bicycle riders, there's a wide variety of it available. In purchasing one for yourself, pick something that's thick so your shorts won't absorb it quickly. Also, it's less susceptible to breaking down when sweat gets to it. It's also a wise decision to go for a product which has antibacterial properties.

Often you will find the product either in a tub or tube. Something in a tub lets you consume every bit of the product. Although a tube won't do the same, it's a more hygienic option as the contents are not exposed. But regardless of the packaging choice, it's important that you clean your hands first before applying where necessary.

If you're going to ride a bike, chamois cream is a must-have. This is particularly true if you're going out there for a long time. The product lubricates to safeguard you from friction, so saddle sores may be effectively prevented.
