by Sally Delacruz

With the daily hustles and long days in school, people need time to relax and rest. Kids also need to rest from all the school days/work. Parents always look forward to spending time with their loved ones and the kids too long to spend time with their friends to play and just have fun doing many different things. This is where camps like Medford summer camps come in with their many programs and social activities for kids.

During summer holidays, the camps put up programs for children of all ages including teenagers and youth. In this places they interact and with other kids from other parts of the world. They learn many things including different cultures, games and languages from each other and from their couches/teachers that are there to guide and supervise them.

The benefits that children get from going to summer camps are; the children/teenagers develop life skills like their communication skills are improved since there is a lot of interaction, personal skills like how to manage stress and cope with emotions. The other benefit is that the children become more independent since they happen to spend time away from their parents and teachers who monitor and guide their every move.

The kids also learn sporting activities like skipping, racing, javelin throwing, swimming, cycling which lead to some of them discovering some hidden talents. They learn how to eat healthy since they are on a balanced diet to keep them healthy while away from home. With the sports and eating right they became very strong health wise keeping away many sicknesses.

Other benefits include exercising through the many sporting activities they are taught. This makes them both strong and healthy keeping sicknesses at bay. Kids who are usually loners get to learn to interact and socialize with other kids thus making new friends. Kids also learn to be independent and friendly, they also learn to share things. The many things they gain/ learn from this summer camps leave them always looking forward to the next holidays.

There are some possible disadvantages that are likely to discourage some kids from going to summer camps. They are; a child might become homesick especially if he/she is a first time camper, being separated from home might be difficult for them especially the first weeks and they have not made friends yet.

Others who are not used to sports find them difficult to do before they get used to them. There could be some cases of bullying. Some of the kids who have low self esteem take some time to open up. Some may find the place boring and they feel out of place since they are not used to being in a place with many other kids.

As much as we have seen the advantages and disadvantages of the summer camps, it is evident that the it is better for the kids to spend their time at the summer holiday camps to learn the many different things and the independence is very important because the youths are young adults and learning how to be independent is very important for them so take your kids to the camps.
