However, there is a more recent technique of giving marks presently used in the United States in elite level competitions.

The new score is known as a difficulty score, which brings the total number of scores in use to 2. In a difficulty score, points are awarded as opposed to execution score where they are deducted. The difficulty score is based on the element gymnasts perform and can change relying on whether one finishes or fails to perform all skills entailed. It also relies on whether or not one links skills to each other as required.

Connection bonuses are the most known sources of gain in difficulty scores. Connection of components are the awarding aspects here as it is considered tactful to connect several flight elements. Moreover, it is difficult to connect two skills if the first one is not done well to start with. Difficulty scores allow gymnasts to gain much more scores based on the level of sophistication of the event they perform and how perfectly they are performed. Here, there is no border to how much points one may gain.

Many events are done singly by an individual while others involve groups or pairs. Group and pair events need a lot of synchronism and concentration among all gymnasts involved because the failure of one participant affects the whole team. There is also several pieces of equipment used in various skills of every event.

Ozark gymnastics bases on perfecting skills learned. Gymnasts go through coaching for years before they perform on international platforms. Many gymnasts warm up before taking part in events so as to be prepared emotionally and physically.
