Link Popularity Case Study from a Dumbbells Retailer

Link Popularity Case Study from a Dumbbells Retailer

by Michele Moncrieffe

My website sells kettlebells exclusively. Perhaps you're thinking, what is a kettlebell? Well, they are a type of weight employed in exercising. I enjoy these weights, but that isn't why you're reading, or the focus of, this article. You're here to get some knowledge on link popularity. I wasn't aware of link popularity originally, and this was a big fallacy.

Link popularity refers to how much value Google gives to a link. You probably were aware getting links to your website is one of the cruxes of SEO, but did you think that all links were the same. While that may (or, then again, maybe not, nobody really knows) on Yahoo and Bing, Google has a complicated system to rank individual links, the higher the better.

Google uses a scale of 0 to 10 to rank each page. This rank is known as a PageRank, and is named after computer programmer and Google co-founder Larry Page. The PageRank scale is logarithmic, which means that a PageRank 1 is ten times greater than having a PageRank 0. A PageRank 2 is one-hundred times better than a PageRank 0. Ten billion PageRank 0's is worth on PageRank 10.

It is a challenge to get a PageRank 10 to link to your website. There aren't a lot of them about there, and they are tremendously selective about which sites they link to. In general, if you can acquire a PageRank 4 or higher to post a link back to your website from theirs, then that is a great advantage. Work hard to accrue how every many of these link backs as you can. You can use a Google online tool to find out an individual website's PageRank. Link Popularity for pages like Lorna is very high.

Suddenly, why my site devoted what are kettlebells made sense; I was getting a lot of links, but they were all from pages with a PageRank of 0 or 1. My competitors were clearly getting links worth a huge deal more. Now, my quest is clear: I need to start getting superior links.
